Halloweekend

From the perspective of a young woman in college, I expected to see a lot more risky Halloween costumes this weekend, however, I saw a lot more gore instead. We college girls can sadly turn even the most modest of outfits, say a Nun’s uniform, into a very sluty, revealing costume. Take this year for instance, the hottest trend amongst college girls had to be the murderous, sexy killer. You know what I’m referring to right? All you need to create this outfit would be an oversized white t-shirt (splattered with red paint to look like blood), tall black boots or socks, a creepy, perhaps ‘Purge’ inspired mask, and finally a deadly, FAKE, weapon. Let me show you a few examples to jog your memory if you missed this massively popular costume this Halloween weekend or should I say, Halloweekend.

This trend of college girls dressing up as literal, ‘lady killers’, is most likely here to stay. Sadly, this costume lacks something very important, and was overlooked by a majority of participants. No one sported a dramatic smokey eye or a smudged red lip. Make up could have enhanced the Killer costume, making it look more realistic. While this particular costume seemed to dominate the college scene, there was one costume this Halloween that definitely stole the show.
Jason Derulo in his Night King Costume at Maxim Halloween Party

At the Maxim Halloween party this past Saturday evening, Jason Derulo surprised guests dressing up as the Night King from the popular television show Game of Thrones. While I was not expecting Jason Derulo to surpass the makeup of even Kim Kardashian-West for Halloween, whom beautifully modeled the classic 70’s Cher look, Derulo truly made this Halloween season one to remember.
As for me, I did not match up to the genius of Jason Derulo.
I was a Hippie, a Pirate and a Space Cat:

After my post last week, I decided to take my own advice and be a cat one night for Halloween. It was too easy not to. Also, what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t live by my own instructions. I had the cat ears, the insane amount of glitter and all the cat esentials at my disposal. However, I was lacking an actual costume or statement garment of clothing for saturday evening and the clock was ticking. This is where things got spooky. After spending hours in front of my closet, with time no where on my side, I chose to give up on the concept of a cat costume this Halloween. I convinced myself that I had done all that I could; given it my best effort. After only a few moments of sulking, my boyfriend rushes into my apartment in a mad rush with a smile. Seeing the confused look on my face, he removes an oversized, cat covered, galaxy space print t-shirt. All of my problems were then solved. After a few moments with my makeup mirror and a pair of fabric scissors, I was ready to not only be a cat on saturday, but a space cat.
While we know that makeup is an essential step in accomplishing the look of any Halloween costumes, finding the right product can be difficult. For your next Halloween, I suggest adding a few new products to your makeup arsenal. First up is Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Eye Liner in Invasion black. This eyeliner is not only perfect for the eye lid, but for intricate face designs such as lace, noses and imperfections. The next product is NYX’s Professional Makeup Face and Body Glitter. This face and body glitter is perfect for Halloween costumes and for adding a little something extra to your makeup. The final product is PRIMER. This simple, but crucial first step is often forgotten. Apply a dime size amount of liquid primer to your clean face, before applying any makeup, will ensure for a fresh, long lasting makeup appearance. Personally, I recommend, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer. Reasons to love it:
- Always less than $10
- Long lasting without clogging pores
- Keeps skin clean and fresh
As for Halloween this Tuesday the 31st, I’m not sure what my costume will be. But, with the right makeup, my options are wide open. Stay tuned for pictures of my Halloween makeup look!
